A poem #19 – Two doves in the half-light

Two doves in the half-light,
turning their feathers a dull grey from lovely white.
bickering over seed, bitterly,
arguing which grains are theirs, though there are plenty.
Wishing each other to fly away,
and yet simultaneously wishing each other would stay.
Both longing for the dawn of a new day,
and some reason to turn their feathers white again.
