A poem #32 – Family business

All those business trips away,
little time for family life, little time to play.
The shadowy figure in the doorway light,
more early starts and delayed return-flights.
Inside the house,
a presence but a trace,
of the silhouette-man
with the time-forgotten face.
A million-pound offer
for a seat amongst the stars,
but the weight of good conscience
brought you back down to earth.
Now that you’re home,
our blood has come thick.
We’re two peas in a pod:
a hero and his sidekick.
