A poem #35 – The soldier’s wife

Oh, my dear,
your mind is on the moon.
Is it your man you seek up there?
Stay strong, he’ll be back soon.

He’ll bring you a desert flower,
and wipe the dust from his eye.
He’ll make you a family again,
a mother, a father, and child.

His time there will soon be over,
though the war still rages on,
think a moment for his brothers’ wives,
whose battles have not been won.

Embrace him in every second,
with your body and your soul,
for he has given the greatest gift to his country,
and it has taken the greatest toll.
